Mayor Peter Dermol
Dear citizens of Velenje and visitors of our website,
Velenje is a special place. A city with a big heart and warm people. We are known for the large number of volunteers and by the fact that we know how to cooperate and help each other. It is my and our wish that all our citizens feel happy here and lead a quality way of life. We are also always delighted to be able to accept visitors as Velenje has much to show off.
We are proud to say we have been awarded many titles: we have been awarded the most beautiful city, the best natural bathing site, and I could go on and on. We also often serve as an example of good practices for other local communities, with whom we are happy to share our experience.
We have taken many measures to improve the living and working conditions for young people in our community. We are also improving the living conditions for the elderly citizens of Velenje.
The Municipality of Velenje was selected as a climate-neutral and smart city within the EU Mission project. Along with the municipalities of Ljubljana and Kranj, Velenje was included among 100 European cities which will serve as experimental and innovation centres, and which will enable all cities in the EU to become climate neutral by 2050.
We decided to update the website to make some of the information more transparent and easily accessible. We have simplified and adapted the site to users with various forms of disability. We have, of course, maintained all the forms that you can access via the website, as well as publications and calls for tenders that are of interest to the general public.
I would like to co-shape the operation of our local community together, so we include you, respected citizens, in our projects and activities through various activities. We listen to you and I strive to hear you and take action. Also in the future, I would like you to give your praise, suggestions and also information about shortcomings via the email address info@velenje.si or the Sooblikujmo Velenje portal, which you can find on the website.
I hope you will help to co-shape the functioning of our community. Therefore, by organising various activities we include you, my dear fellow citizens, in various projects and activities taking place in the municipality. We listen to you and I am doing my best for you to be heard and for us to take appropriate measures. Please keep providing your feedback, suggestions, commendations and information on potential shortcomings to info@velenje.si or Co-shaping Velenje portal, which you can find on the website.
The Municipality of Velenje is aware that the imminent closure of the coal mine brings about significant challenges. We are doing our best, and will continue to do so, to soon be able to provide numerous jobs, a friendly and stimulating environment for business growth and a quality standard of living.
I believe that Velenje is a city with the best energy and that we have a bright future ahead of us. The path will certainly be challenging and the restructuring process requires a lot of knowledge, clearly set goals, top-notch staff, good cooperation and all the good energy we have.
We have the energy, a big heart and good people, too. Thus, we can and we know how to do it. But we won’t succeed unless we do it hand in hand and for the well-being of all our citizens and those who come to visit our beautiful city.
Love our city! Love Velenje! Each and every day!
Peter Dermol, the Mayor
